Devo, abanderados del post punk más clarividente y divertido, y una de las piedras angulares en la convergencia de pop-rock con la electrónica primigenia de sintetizadores e instrumentos analógicos, vuelven a Europa después de 17 años. Será la primera fecha de una mini gira por el viejo continente y Sónar será el único festival por el que pasen.
Uno de los factores que definen a este cuarteto liderado por Jerry Casale y Mark Mothersbaugh son su amor hacia los aparatos electrónicos rancios, una extraña afición por las imágenes dadaístas, un sentido del humor ácido y extravagante y, sobre todo, su condición de pioneros a la hora de aunar sintetizadores y canciones pop.
Formados a principios de los setenta en Akron, una ciudad gris, fea e industrial de Ohio, Devo dieron sus primeros pasos como una banda de rock de voluntad irritante y aspecto estrafalario: vestidos como clones, con uniformes de apariencia vagamente militar y luciendo peinados imposibles, mezclaban guitarras eléctricas con sintetizadores destripados, cajas de ritmo artesanales, juguetes y batidoras, y a pesar de ello construían enormes canciones de pop (”Mongoloid”, “Girl u want”, o su tremenda revisión de “(I can’t get no) satisfaction” que aún permanecen en el imaginario colectivo. Su primer disco, “Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!”, producido en 1977 por Brian Eno, les convirtió en referentes de la new wave, pero su gran momento de gloria se produjo tres años después, con el fabuloso “Freedom of choice” y el impagable video clip que rodaron para “Whip it” (y que les convirtió en las primeras estrellas de la emergente MTV). Padres del pop sintético, referencia reconocida para artistas como The Human League, Depeche Mode o The Residents (pero también para otros menos evidentes, como Nirvana, Soundgarden o Death Cab For Cutie), Devo dejaron de publicar discos una década después. Y aunque oficialmente nunca han dejado de existir (es posible seguir un rastro de sintonías para anuncios, aportaciones a bandas sonoras o videoclips que llevan su firma estampada), se han mantenido alejados de los escenarios durante mucho tiempo.
Su actuación en Sónar 2007 será un momento único para descubrir a una de las formaciones más singulares que haya dado la música popular.
Todo comenzó con un tripeo de dub espacial, pero el tiempo pasa, y la evolución es inminente, los panas de Semilla Multimedia Sound System tienen mucho que decir, y sobre todo, con muy buenas vibraciones.
Arte urbano que brilla semana tras semana en las calles de Barcelona, así como en infinidad de monitores y altavoces de internautas de todo el mundo.
Un proyecto creado por el Brujo (Alecsei), un paisano venezolano, radicado en Barcelona desde hace unos cuantos años, y al que personalmente denomino el Gurú, quién ha sabido juntar muy buenas migas con otros talentos de diversas latitudes, conformado así un conglomerado en el que la experimentación, los game boys, lo acustico, lo electónico, la poesía intensa, y lo flipado convergen un un sólo ser, aquí les dejos el link del Lebiatan de Semilla Multimedia Sound System:

Nos llega por parte de Sónar Press International el primer comunicado oficial sobre lo que se vislumbra para la nueva e inminente edición del magno evento electronico de la ciudad Comdal. Un cartel realmente impresionante, que emulsiona directamente mis recuerdos sonoros más afectivos de principios de los años 80, y llos converge en un sin fin de nuevos talentos sumados a “algunos” de los ya clásicos… clásicos pero efectivos!

que practiquen un poco las lenguas anglosajonas. The Beastie Boys, Devo, Cornelius, and the latest in cosmopolitan music are the highlights of a multi-faceted bill with a party spirit.
The fourteenth Sónar festival will be held this year on 14,
15 and 16 of June.
The festival returns to the Fira Gran Via (M2) area on Thursday's
opening night, with the Beastie Boys and Narod Niki on an exclusive double
bill loaded with surprises.
Beastie Boys, the best band of white rappers of all time, will give us two
very different concerts - an instrumental one, "A Gala Event - Exclusive
Instrumental Show" on Thursday in SonarPark which will be an exceptional event on the opening night, and
another one featuring all their classics in the Friday session of Sónar
by Night. On Thursday’s special night, they
will be accompanied by the minimalist techno project, Narod Niki.
Devo, standard bearers of discerning and entertaining
post-punk, and one of the cornerstones in the convergence of pop-rock
with electronica based on analogue synthesisers and instruments, return
to Europe after 17 years. This will be the first date on a European
mini-tour and Sónar
will be the only festival which they play at.
There are other special moments at Sónar 2007. Heading the festival's
usual oriental quota, on his first visit to Spain, is Cornelius. From the land of the rising sun we will also have Romantica, Piana, Kazumasa Hashimoto and Juanji Kubo. China will be represented at the festival for the first time by White, 718 and FM3, accompanied by their popular Buddha Machines.
Today's sound aesthetics and its leading artists are Sónar's
calling cards. An example of this is the arrival at the festival of the British
dubstep armada with Mary Anne Hobbs, Kode 9 & The
Spaceape, Various Production, Skream and Oris Jay. Paris is reborn. A new scene, twisted by the attitude and manners of rock, pop and funk, is revitalising house in the French capital. Top of the bill are Justice, Uffie feat. Feadz and DJ Mehdi. And our contribution to the imminent rave revival includes Digitalism, Simian Mobile Disco and New Young Pony Club,
as well as the remixer whose name is on everyone's lips, Radioslave. Top representative headliners like Altern 8 and Fangoria will also be present.
This year there will be a double-billed special programme at L'Auditori. Two concerts which combine piano and electronic experimentation will take place in the Oriol-Martorell hall on Friday 15 June. First there will be an exclusive concert by the duo Tristano-Murcof entitled “Not for Piano”.
During the second part of the evening, the stage will be taken by the project Alexander´s
Annexe feat. Mira Calix.
The Sónar by Night classics will be Jeff Mills, Dave Clarke, Timo Maas and Miss Kittin.
However, fans of music genres like hip-hop, pop-based electronica, experimental and extreme rock will be satisfied with names like La
Mala Rodríguez, DJ Nu Mark, Hocus Pocus C2C, Junior Boys, Hey Willpower, Khan Of Finland, Mogwai, Wolf Eyes, KLT (Stephen O’Malley
de Sunn o))) and Pita) and the surprising project by the Matthew Dear Live Band.
Sónar 2007 brings you up to date with the current situation on Barcelona's
local scene. Among its representatives are Night Of The Brain - the project featuring Cristian Vogel playing guitar - , and Nettle, the new DJ/Rupture vehicle. Fiblanda, Facto
Delafé y las Flores Azules and Dorian, among others, will also be present.
The Sónar showcases are unbeatable opportunities to discover
different scenes from all over the world. Among the showcases this year
are Noble (JP), Innervisions (DE), Lo Recordings (UK), On and On Records (FR), Station 55 (ES) BBC Radio 1 (UK), Ed Banger (FR), Hot as HEL (FI) and Beijing Waves (CN).

visitors to the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica
to try something different, the experience of an immersion in the spatial
possibilities of sound as a sensory stimulus. In the SonarExtra section,
an exhibition at Cosmocaixa Barcelona completes the range of themes exhibited
with "Physics and Music. Vibrations for the soul”

Antes que nada les saludo y les informo que ya el Red Bull Music Academy esta de vuelta y para informar a todo aquel interesado estaremos llevando a cabo una serie de info sessions el próximo mes de marzo en 4 ciudades de Venezuela como lo son:
*Caracas, Martes 13 de Marzo a partir de las 2pm en 205, Centro Comercial San Ignacio.
*Maracaibo, Jueves 15 de Marzo a partir de las 2pm en Rumi, (Antigua Cubeta a 100 mtrs del Hotel Kristoff) Av. 8, Santa Rita entre calles 69 y 70.
*Mérida, Martes 20 de Marzo a partir de las 2pm en PreDespacho, Av las Américas, frente al mercado Murachí, Local 4.
*Valencia, Jueves 22 de Marzo a partir de las 2pm en Bambu Lounge, Av. Monseñor Adams c/c Av. San Félix, frente a la plaza de las esculturas, El Viñedo.
Red Bull Music Academy agrupa a músicos de todo el mundo con la intención de crear una plataforma de intercambio y aprendizaje entre los exponentes de las diferentes corrientes musicales de vanguardia.
En un lapso de 30 días se hacen presente importantes personalidades de la industria musical para compartir sus experiencias y conocimientos
Todo esto se enmarcará este año en la ciudad de TORONTO en Canadá; con lo mejor en tecnología, software e instrumentos a disposición de los participantes…
